Over 100 crews of children from the Peace Fleet – Mirno more stayed at Marina Kaštela

For the tenth year in a row, the participants in the Peace Fleet project Mirno more gathered at Marina Kaštela in Kaštel Gomilica. This project involved over 100 crews of children from marginalized groups from all over Europe, such as children without adequate parental care, people with physical and mental disabilities, and children with chronic illnesses, accompanied by skippers, educators, doctors, and safety personnel, totaling around 800 beneficiaries and 200 volunteers.

Part of this fleet was also a crew organized by the Mirno more Marina Kaštela Association, which sailed on four boats this year, and consisted of children without adequate parental care from the Maestral Children’s Home, users of the Mir Rudine Rehabilitation Center, people with mental disabilities from the Institute Drin i Bakovići from Bosnia and Herzegovina and people with Down syndrome from the Sindrom Down 21 Association.

The children participated in a week of sailing along the Croatian coast, where through various shared activities, they learned to foster mutual understanding and tolerance, embrace differences, and along the way, formed diverse friendships.

The entire fleet of 95 vessels that set sail from various Dalmatian ports on Saturday, 16 September, gathered on Wednesday, 20 September, at Marina Kaštela, which hosted and sponsored the event. They spent two days together engaging in activities. The main celebration, a concert titled “Festival mira – Peace Festival”, took place on Wednesday evening on the crowded terrace of the Spinnaker restaurant.

The project’s value was recognized by numerous organizations that helped the fleet set sail, including the Ministry of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure, Croatian Highways, ACI Marinas, and many others. After they received a warm welcome and support at a press conference on Wednesday morning from Josip Berket, the host from Marina Kaštela, Deputy County Prefect Stipe Čogelja, and the Mayor of Kaštela, Denis Ivanović, the project was also visited by the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria in Croatia, Dr. Josef Markus Wuketich.

After returning to their homes, the organizers are already starting to think about the next Mirno More, when this commendable project will celebrate a significant 30-year milestone.
